Driving With a Burned-Out Headlight? That's a Fix-It Ticket.
Oregon law requires working headlights. A burned-out headlight isn't just a safety issue, it's an equipment violation that can get you pulled over. And yet it's one of those things people put off for weeks because it seems like it should be simple.
On a lot of older vehicles it is simple. On many modern cars and trucks, accessing the headlight housing requires removing the bumper fascia, the wheel liner, or other components just to reach the bulb. Do it wrong and you're breaking plastic clips that cost more than the bulb.
We handle halogen, LED, and HID (xenon) systems. We check both headlights — not just the one that's out — and inspect for fuse or relay issues if the problem turns out not to be the bulb. Taillights, brake lights, and turn signals get a quick check while we're there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I replace both headlight bulbs at the same time? A: Generally yes. If one has failed, the other is usually close — especially on halogen systems where both bulbs have similar run hours. Matching brightness on both sides also improves nighttime visibility.
Q: Can you work on HID xenon headlights? A: Yes. HID systems operate at high voltage and require specific handling and components. We have the knowledge and equipment to work on them correctly.
Q: What if it's not the bulb? A: We'll diagnose it. Headlight failures can come from a blown fuse, a failed relay, a bad headlight switch, or a wiring issue. We find the root cause.
Q: Will a headlight out cause me to fail an Oregon vehicle inspection? A: Yes. Non-functional lighting is a safety violation and an automatic inspection failure. Get it fixed before your next registration renewal.
