Mobile Control Arm & Suspension Component Replacement, Medford, OR

Installation Starting at $249

A Loose, Clunky Front End Isn't Just Annoying — It's a Handling Problem

Control arms, also called swing arms or A-arms, are the structural link between your wheel hub assembly and the vehicle's frame. They hold the wheel in its correct position relative to the chassis while allowing it to move up and down over road imperfections. When they wear out, the wheel position changes, and your car stops handling the way it should.

Control arm failure happens in two ways: the arm itself cracks or bends (usually from an impact with a pothole or curb), or the rubber bushings at the mounting points wear out and allow excessive movement. Bushing wear is far more common and is responsible for most of the vague, clunky, wandering front-end behavior that people chalk up to 'just getting old.'

We also service related components: sway bar links, sway bar bushings, strut mounts, and other suspension hardware that contributes to front-end noise, play, or handling problems. We inspect everything and tell you exactly what's worn before we recommend any repair.

Signs of Control Arm or Suspension Component Problems

  • Clunking, rattling, or banging from the front suspension over bumps

  • Steering wheel feels vague or the car wanders on straight roads

  • Vehicle pulls to one side

  • Vibration through the steering wheel at highway speeds

  • Uneven tire wear, especially inner or outer edge wear

  • Visible cracked or collapsed bushings

  • Visible damage to the arm from an impact

Alignment After Suspension Work, Required, Not Optional

Replacing control arms or bushings changes your front end geometry. Without a proper alignment after, your tires will wear unevenly and the car won't track straight. We make a preliminary toe adjustment, but a four-wheel alignment at an alignment shop is required after this job. We'll recommend a reputable alignment shop in the Medford area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you just replace the bushings without replacing the whole control arm? A: Yes — if the arm itself is in good shape, pressing in new bushings is effective and less expensive than a full arm replacement. We'll assess which makes sense for your vehicle.

Q: Do I need an alignment after control arm replacement? A: Yes, every time. Control arm work changes your camber and toe angles. Skipping the alignment means uneven tire wear and a car that doesn't drive straight.

Q: How do I know if the noise is a control arm or something else? A: Front suspension noise can come from control arm bushings, ball joints, sway bar links, strut mounts, or tie rod ends — they all sound similar. A proper inspection with the wheel off the ground isolates exactly what's moving that shouldn't be.

Q: Is suspension repair dangerous to delay? A: Worn bushings make handling vague but are generally not immediately dangerous. A cracked or severely damaged control arm is a different story — it can fail under stress. If you're hearing a significant clunk or the car feels unstable, don't delay.
