That Clicking When You Turn? That's a CV Joint Telling You Something
CV axles, constant velocity axles, transfer power from your transmission to your wheels while allowing the wheel to move up and down with the suspension and turn left and right with the steering. They do this through a precision joint called a CV joint, packed with grease and sealed inside a rubber boot.
When that boot cracks or tears, the grease gets flung out and dirt and water get in. The joint runs dry and contaminated, and it starts to wear fast. The first symptom is usually a clicking or popping sound when turning, especially noticeable when turning sharply at low speeds, like pulling out of a parking spot.
Caught early, when it's just a torn boot, it's a less expensive repair. Left alone, the joint wears out completely and you're looking at a full axle replacement. We'll tell you exactly what stage the damage is at when we inspect it

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I drive with a clicking CV axle? A: For a short time if you're careful, but it will get worse and eventually fail completely. A failed CV axle at highway speed is dangerous. Get it inspected soon.
Q: Is a CV boot repair cheaper than replacing the whole axle? A: Sometimes — if the boot is torn but the joint itself hasn't been running without grease long enough to cause wear. We'll tell you honestly which repair makes sense. In many cases, replacing the full axle shaft is more cost-effective than a boot-only repair.
Q: How long does CV axle replacement take? A: Most CV axle replacements take 1 to 2 hours depending on the vehicle and accessibility.
Q: Do you do CV axle work in Central Point and White City? A: Yes — Central Point, White City, and the entire 15-mile radius from Medford are in our service area.
